Outdoor clothing should be designed around how it will actually be used. At Garphyttan, that means creating garments for work, movement and everyday life outdoors – with materials, construction and details chosen for a purpose.
Our approach is simple: function should feel natural, clothing should be made to be used, and every detail should contribute to how the garment works in real life.

Good outdoor clothing starts with understanding what the garment needs to do. How it moves, where it needs protection, what you need to carry and how conditions change throughout the day all influence the design.
We look at the garment as a whole. Material, fit, pockets, ventilation, reinforcement and adjustability should work together, not exist as separate features. The goal is simple: clothing that feels straightforward to use because the function is built into the design.
A feature should earn its place on a garment. Pockets, ventilation, reinforcements and adjustments should solve a real need without making the clothing more complicated than it needs to be.
Sometimes that means reinforcing an area exposed to repeated wear. Sometimes it means placing a pocket where it stays accessible when you move or work. Small details can make a noticeable difference when they are designed around how the garment is actually used.
One example is our armpit pocket, a discreet pocket designed to keep small essentials protected and out of the way while you move. Developed from a practical need for smarter storage, it has since become a signature Garphyttan detail.

There is no single material that works best for every garment. The right choice depends on what the clothing needs to do – provide protection, allow movement, manage moisture or keep you warm.
We choose materials and constructions based on how and where the garment is intended to be used.
Cotton & polycotton
Technical fabrics
Wool
Durability and everyday protection
Cotton and polycotton fabrics provide a robust feel suited to work and everyday outdoor use. Some can also be treated with garment wax when additional protection against weather and wear is needed.
Movement and moisture
Lighter synthetic and stretch fabrics are useful when freedom of movement, quick drying and moisture management matter more than heavy protection.
Natural warmth and breathability
Wool provides insulation while remaining breathable, making it well suited to colder conditions and garments designed to provide warmth without unnecessary complexity.

Outdoor clothing needs to work when you move. Reaching, bending, walking and working all place different demands on the fit and construction of a garment.
We design with movement in mind – balancing room where it is needed with a fit that stays comfortable and functional throughout the day. Stretch, articulated shapes and adjustable details can all play a part, depending on what the garment is made for.
Outdoor clothing is meant to get dirty, show signs of wear and change with use. That is part of what happens when a garment becomes something you reach for again and again.
Good care can help keep it in use for longer. Washing only when needed, maintaining protective treatments and dealing with small signs of wear early can all help preserve the garment’s fit, function and feel over time.
Life outdoors rarely fits into one category. The same day can involve work, time in the forest, changing weather and everyday errands. When it makes sense, we design clothing to move between those situations without feeling out of place.
Versatility does not mean every garment needs to do everything. Some conditions require more specialised solutions. The goal is to give each garment the level of function its intended use actually demands – no more complicated than necessary.
The principles behind our clothing become most meaningful when they are put into practice. Different garments solve different problems, but the same thinking runs through them: purposeful function, materials suited to the job and details designed for real-world use.
